General Election
Tuesday, November 2nd

Vote for Cindy Neighbor on Tuesday, November 2, 2010Please remember that every vote counts and we hope to see you at the polls!

Now that the Primary Election is over, we are in full swing preparing for the November 2nd General  Election.  Walking in 90-100 degree weather is good for weight reduction and a “farmer’s tan” but is difficult on the body and mind after four hour walks.  It is great to talk with constituents in all the 18th District and listen to their concerns.  This is the best part of being in the Legislature, greeting and talking with friends and neighbors and meeting new constituents!

While there is still concern about the economy, many positive things are happening to strengthen the Kansas economy, unlike other states in our nation.  With the passage of some of the following pieces of legislation, new jobs are being created which is the number one issue for most Kansas citizens.

  • Transportation Works for Kansas - A Comprehensive Transportation Plan: This bill establishes a new comprehensive transportation program, to be called the T-Works Program.  The Kansas Department of Transportation estimated that, over the next ten years, the program will have available to it approximately $8.2 billion and produce approximately 175,000 new jobs and more
  • Prohibiting Texting While Driving:  The bill prohibits a person who is operating a motor vehicle on a public road or highway from “testing,” using a wireless communications device to write, send, or read a written communication.   There are exceptions and more
  • Social Workers — Continuing Education:  This bill amends the continuing education requirements for baccalaureate, master, and specialist clinical social workers.  Approximately six years ago, a local clinical worker was killed in Johnson County while working with a student.  This requirement will hopefully put more tools in the social worker’s tool bag and more
  • Lexie’s Law:  Lexie’s Law amends prior law concerning the supervision, licensing and inspection requirements for specified child care facilities under a single licensure category.  Approximately 2100 day care facilities have never been inspected.  The bill requires the creation of an online information dissemination system accessible to the public and more…
  • Coverage Requirements – Autism Spectrum Disorder, Orally-Administered Anticancer Medications: This bill enacts new law and amends existing law to specify certain requirements for the coverage of services for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and for the coverage for orally administered anticancer medication, on a basis no less favorable than intravenously or injected cancer medications that are covered as medical benefits and more

These are only a few of the important pieces of legislation that occurred during our last session.

Sincerely,
Kansas State Representative Cindy Neighbor
