2009 Legislative Session Issue Updates:
FY2010 Budget(last update - April 5, 2009)
Last week, the House and Senate came to an agreement on the FY 2010 Mega Budget Bill, which was officially approved by both chambers this week. The $13 billion budget may not take full advantage of federal stimulus dollars to protect higher education, but it includes $58.3 more in spending than Governor Sebelius proposed.

FY2009 State Budget(last update - February 22, 2009)
The FY 2009 budget, approved by the House late last week, reached the Governor’s desk this Tuesday. The Governor signed the bill into law as soon as she received it on Tuesday afternoon, but she did exercise her authority to issue line item vetoes. Final cuts in the FY 2009 budget totaled approximately $300 million.

Energy Issues in the Legislature(last update - March 15, 2009)
During the 2009 Legislative Session the Kansas Legislature will consider many energy-related issues such as construction of the Holcomb Power Plant and an effective, comprehensive energy policy for the State of Kansas.
Education Issues in the Legislature(last update - March 22, 2009)
As in previous sessions, adequate funding of education, including our institutions of higher learning, will be a major topic for the Legislature. These issues will be more difficult as the State of Kansas faces major budget problems in this trying economy.
Kansas Minimum Wage(last update - March 22, 2009)
After years of working to raise the Kansas minimum wage, we are finally making progress. Currently, the Kansas minimum wage is $2.65 per hour- the lowest in the nation. The last minimum wage increase was approved more than 20 years ago, in 1988. About 20,000 Kansans work for this rate.

Each year thousands of people lose track of some of their property - it can happen to anyone. The office of State Treasurer helps locate the rightful owners and heirs to property currently held by the State of Kansas.
Filing Unemployment Claims(last update - January 19, 2009)
Kansans are feeling the impact of the national economic recession, and the Kansas Department of Labor's Unemployment Contact Center is seeing the effects of the recession with an unusually high number of calls and wait times.
