More news from the legislature...

The Kansas Legislature consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Legislature typically meets in full session once a year, beginning in January and lasting through April. However, the Governor may call a special legislative session if needed.

The House of Representatives has 125 members, each elected to a two -year term. The Senate has 40 members, each elected to a four-year term. There are no term limits for either Senators or Representatives.

The Omnibus Bill

One of the primary tasks of the Wrap Up Session is to approve the Omnibus Bill. It is called the Omnibus Bill because it includes appropriations for a wide variety of purposes and for every agency requiring further appropriation action for the current or forthcoming fiscal year.

Understanding the Legislative Calendar

Role of Conference Committees:

Once a bill has passed both the House and Senate, it goes to what we call a conference committee. The purpose of this committee is to discuss policy differences between the House and Senate versions of a bill.
